5 Facts About Mahindra Tractors
While we do sell a limited number of parts for other tractor brands, our main focus has always been on Mahindra Tractors. Here are a few interesting facts about Mahindra tractors.
1. Mahindra Got Its Start Producing Military Vehicles
The Mahindra brothers began their careers as steel traders but decided in the late 1940s to expand their scope into manufacturing. The first vehicles they produced weren’t tractors but Military Utility Vehicles (MUVs). In fact, they became a Jeep manufacturer in India, and produced what was known as Willys Jeeps. The Willys Jeep had been an important vehicle in World War II and continued to be used during the Korean War.
Eventually, the company expanded into providing utility vehicles for other purposes, including commercial vehicles, police vehicles and more. Eventually, they also expanded into making passenger utility vehicles. Mahindra began producing tractors in 1953, and the company introduced its tractors into the American market in the 1990s.
2. Mahindra Sells The Most Tractors Worldwide
While John Deere is still the top-selling tractor manufacturing in the United States, Mahindra is a close second, and worldwide, no one outsells Mahindra. While the company is based in India, many Mahindra tractors are produced here in the United States.
Mahindra has assembly plants in Houston, Texas, which is also the location of its U.S. headquarters. Additional assembly plants are located in California, Kansas, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. More than 8,000 Americans work for Mahindra, either at assembly plants or at tractor dealerships and other related Mahindra businesses.
3. Mahindra Produces 11 Series Of Tractors
Currently, there are 11 different Mahindra tractor series on the market, ranging from the eMax to the 9000 series models. The eMax is the smallest line of tractors, with a lift capacity ranging from 680 to 1,323 pounds. The 9000 series has a lift capacity of up to 9,460 pounds, but keep in mind there are other many options in between these two sizes.
To make it easier, the tractor categories are divided into several groupings including Sub-Compact, Compact, Compact Utility and Utility. The eMax series models are considered sub-compact tractors, and are a popular choice for homeowners with large properties or small farms. Compact tractors include the Max series models. The Compact Utility tractors include the 1600, 2600, 3600 and 4500 series models. The largest group – the Utility tractors – includes the 5500, 6000, 7000, 8000 and 9000 series models.
4. Mahindra Also Produces Attachments & Accessories.
In addition to the different models of tractors, there are many accessories, implements and attachments that might be necessary for your specific situation. You might need loaders, a backhoe, mid-mount mowers, snow equipment, spreaders, brush cutters, rock buckets and more, and Mahindra produces just about anything you might need.
5. Mahindra Also Makes UTVs
If you have a large property or farm or perhaps often need to take employees into remote locations, a UTV can be a great option to consider. Mahindra UTVs can seat 3 to 6 passengers, depending on the model and there are plenty of helpful accessories. These include under-seat storage, racks, toolboxes, a disc plow and snowplow attachments. These Mahindra UTVs also have a towing capacity of up to 2100 pounds.
While our Mahindra parts list doesn’t include UTV parts, these utility vehicles still can be a useful addition to your operation. It is important to note that we don’t sell Mahindra tractors and we are not related to the Mahindra & Mahindra group or any other group of companies nor do we represent them in any manner. We are simply an independent importer of tractor parts.
