The Mahindra Tractor Hydraulic System: Parts, Advice & More
Posted by Reubicon Tractor Parts on 22nd Jan 2022
If you own a Mahindra tractor, taking care of the Mahindra tractor hydraulic system should be one of the many important tasks you complete in order to keep your tractor in top-notch condition. At Reubicon Tractor Parts, we can provide you with quality parts for your hydraulic system and provide you with some basic info about these important systems.
How Does A Mahindra Tractor Hydraulic System Work?
Many types of machinery include hydraulic systems, and these systems work by using hydraulic fluid to add pressure or energy to a component of the engine as well as to lubricate various parts of your tractor. For instance, in a car or truck, hydraulic braking systems use fluid to place pressure on brake pads. The pads then press onto the vehicle’s axles, which slows or stops the vehicle.
When it comes to your Mahindra tractor, the hydraulic system provides energy to lift and lower implements such as a loader, backhoe, mower or other attachments. The hydraulic system also lubricates the gears and often helps run the transmission.
A Mahindra tractor hydraulic system includes a variety of parts including a hydraulic pump, a hydraulic cylinder, a hydraulic tank, valves, a filter and more. The hydraulic system’s reservoir stores fluids and when you turn on the engine, the pump adds pressure to the fluid which then is dispersed to various parts of the tractor.
How To Check Hydraulic Fluid in a Mahindra Tractor
Checking the hydraulic fluid in a tractor is similar to how you would check the oil. Make sure your tractor engine is off, as you never want to check fluids with a running engine. Your tractor also should be on level ground to ensure that you get an accurate reading. We highly recommend that you check the fluid levels in the same location, if possible, as this provides you with a clearer picture of the whole hydraulic system.
For instance, if you have been using your tractor consistently and checking the fluid when needed, but you notice that the fluid is much lower than expected at some point, this could indicate that there might be a leak or issue with some part of the hydraulic system. It’s easier to gauge these problems if you check the fluid on the same patch of level ground every time you check.
We also recommend that your tractor components be in the same position every time you check. For instance, keep your loader at the same level and your backhoe at the same level when you check this fluid level. This will provide you with the most consistent readings and make it much easier to spot potential issues.
How Often Should You Change Hydraulic Fluid?
We always recommend that you refer to the section of your Mahindra manual that deals with the Mahindra Tractor Hydraulic system and use the manufacturer’s recommendations. Even if your hydraulic fluid levels are high, you do need to change the fluid from time to time because the fluid will degrade or become dirty as time passes.
Changing the fluid isn’t difficult, and you can learn to do it yourself. There are quite a few video tutorials available online and it only takes about half an hour. We typically recommend that you run the tractor engine for about a minute before changing the fluid. Then turn off the engine, drain the fluid, clean or replace the filter and once everything is closed up, add new hydraulic fuel. The amount of fluid needed varies based on the make and model of your Mahindra tractor.
Changing & Cleaning Your Hydraulic Filter
In general, the hydraulic filter should be cleaned or changed after about 50 hours of use, but this can vary depending on how you use your tractor. If you are running on rough terrain or in tough conditions, you might want to clean this filter more frequently. Again, be sure to refer to the guidelines in your tractor manual.
To clean the filter, you will need to place a bucket under the part of the tractor where the filter is located as you can expect about three or four gallons of hydraulic fluid to be released when you loosen the clamps and remove the filter once your filter is cleaned or replaced with a new filter, you will need to add more fluid to your hydraulic system reservoir, approximately the same amount as was drained when you removed the filter.
Proper Maintenance Extends Your Tractor Life
While a tractor might seem like a complicated piece of machinery, most tractor owners can handle many maintenance tasks on their own, including replacing the hydraulic fluid, changing the oil, replacing filters and more. Proper maintenance will ensure that your tractor stays in good condition well beyond the expiration of your warranty.
We recommend that you check fluids before each use, as well as checking the tire conditions and tire pressure. Additionally, you will want to create a maintenance schedule that includes checking all of the components of your tractor and lubricating or greasing the tractor.
For instance, after every 50 hours of use, you may want to handle the following tasks:
∙Change the oil & oil filter
∙Check the coolant level
∙Check the transmission fluid
∙Clean/change out the transmission filter
∙Check the hydraulic fluid
∙Clean/change out the hydraulic filter
∙Check the front axle oil
∙Check the radiator hose
Again, use your Mahindra manual as your guide, but with proper maintenance, you can avoid many costly repairs and extend the life of your tractor. When you do need new filters or parts, we can provide you with just about any Mahindra component you might need at super low prices and we also offer fast shipping so you can have your tractor up and running again as soon as possible.
